Megane!

The power of glasses in anime and manga. They are indeed a useful device. They seem to go with any character either adding to their appeal or making them cute/goofy. the way they clink in anime and act of adjusting them scores mega points for them on the love meter. They can be applied like Honey-Senpai is used as the cute component of Mori-Senpai. Even thin glasses can be used as masks, changing the face when they are on or off.
I'm not an overly glasses-loving fan like some:

But I will not deny their appeal and the way they work lovely on anime and manga characters. Whether they're angry, happy, crying or bleeding they just look great on the wearer. They can help build the characters, or at least the persona they take on when wearing them. And the removal of glasses from some of the most S characters can reveal that they are extremely M and the turnaround is just tantalizing at times.

There are a few different types of spectacle characters though. As you can see below:

The Cute Type:

Usually already placed on an insecure and shy individual that has some inner strength. That little glare or look of confusion through the lens is just amplified and someones they can't be taken too seriously.

They really make you wanna bully them. *Inner S, go away!!*

The Hot-but-you-know-they're-dangerous-but-you-still-want-it Type:

Any deadly character looks nice and sharp in glasses, even if they don't primarily wear them. The glasses add a slick intelligence and as 'nerds' were originally thought to be submissive and shy I think the fact that they actually give of the air of an S is something refreshing.

The Studious Type:

This type is a little harder to pick because they're usually mixed with something else. Kyoya easily fits into the deadly category. Studious definitely applies to them both though.

The Stern Type:

They can glare are you all they want but the admiration (and slight drooling) will not stop. You just want to cause more trouble so they will sigh in exasperation, fix their glasses and then punish you.
... that sounds like it was written by Grell. Grell by the way is not a 'Stern Type'. He is the Pervert Type. That is not disputable.

This one here is also a Pervert Type:

She doesn't look very perverted here but to anyone who has watched or red Inu X Boku SS; you all know the truth.

There is also this Mad Type:

The Tsundere Type:

Hyuuga isn't exactly a Tsundere but is attitude in the flashbacks from when he was younger and the way he's represented in this picture made me think that he could nicely display the type. They can glare behind those glasses and it's great and then when they blush its EXTRA great.

Glasses have also been seen to work in different ways. Some who wear them have a very odd appearance until they're taken off and some have a hidden side contained by this wonderful item.

Exhibit A: Shinomiya Natsuki
When one of the cutest glasses wearing males in the anime world takes of his glasses his character changes. Satsuki is the total opposite of Natsuki's cute side, instead he seems like a total S and increases Natsuki's appeal as a man. Just look at him. Christ he looks kinda scary. It's great isn't it?

This is the difference between 'Satsuki' and Natsuki. Without the glasses and with the glasses. Hot and adorable. I don't know which one I like more.

Ohohohoho. I know which one I prefer. I can hear the cliche fan girl crowd going 'Kyaaaaa!!' 'Natsuki-sama!!!'

Exhibit B: Mey-Rin
Normally an expert British sniper, when wearing her glasses Mey-Rin becomes a clumsy, shy and goofy maid. I won't deny that is rather cute when clumsy. She is quite the same as Natsuki only the glasses are doing a reverse. Mey-Rin doesn't normally wear glasses but they keep her badassery limited otherwise we'd all be overloaded like with Levi (I don't think glasses would cool him off. What could cool him off?).

Now THIS is what Mey-Rin is truly like. Although I won't say her clumsy side isn't part of her true self but this is her original state before wearing glasses. Her eyes are much sharper than a normal persons and the removal of her glasses reveals an expression that informs us shit is about to go down and she will definitely be the one victorious.

Here are some more people who are wearing glasses that don't normally but can still strut it. Sort them into the types you'd like them to be in or think they would be in:
(Goofy, Tsundere, Cute, (omit Shintarou of course), Tsundere, Cute, .. S?... and Hot-but-you-know-they're-dangerous-but-you-still-want-it.)

(Goofy and cute)

(Stern, Cute, (omit Natsuki), Hot-but-you-know-they're-dangerous-but-you-still-want-it, studious and cute.)

(I think they're all quite adorable)

And that ends my sudden fascination over the role of glasses. I need to watch someone adjust them now. Kuroko No Basket should do!!

Oh and I guess I can't forget this handsome youthful looking fellow:
