AU Discussion: Who Would be the First to Surrender?

Proposal:

The main female* line-up of characters of Shingeki No Kyojin replace those of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. They retain their own individuality although they are prepped with the same base history as their counterpart. You take the person they are in Shingeki No Kyojin (anime, first season) and then merge with the circumstances of the character they are replacing in Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

The AU Theory:

The characters will replace each other as follows:

- Akemi Homura → Mikasa Ackerman

- Kaname Madoka → Eren Jaeger (for the purposes of this proposal he will take the place of

- Madoka despite it being a gender swap. Think of him as either a magical girl or boy. His gender irrelevant)

- Tomoe Mami → Christa

- Miki Sayaka → Annie Leonheart 

- Sakura Kyoko → Sasha Blause

- Kyuubey → the 'Coordinate' (if you are not up to date with the SNK manga: disregard and do not search unless you want spoilers. Just think if Kyuubey as himself... Because he's pretty whack to begin with anyway)

Their choice of weapon will remain the same. Mikasa = military. Eren = the bow. Christa = guns. Annie = swords. Sasha = spears.

Other aspects will remain unspecified but if you alter something significant, indicate so in your answer.

My AU Theory Reasoning:

I have chosen for Homura to be replaced by Mikasa due to their personalities and their transformation into their current epic capabilities. I also decided it because of the relationship with Madoka/Eren. I have chosen Madoka to be replaced by Eren because of the connection to Homura/Mikasa and because of their passion for the cause (Eren’s may be fiercer and more violent but they’re both very driven (I’ll kill all the Titans/Witches)). I’ve chosen Mami to be replaced by Christa because of their good natured and caring personality. Sayaka is replaced by Annie because of their passion to fight for what they believe is right and also because they give up everything for that same wish and lose their heads along the way. Kyoko is replaced by Sasha because of their love of food and somewhat carefree fighting style; Hanji might have suited a little better because of her wildness but I opted for Sasha in the end, even though she causes no friction with the others.

There are many different reasons for them being replaced by others but these are the choices I have opted for, for this AU.

The Details:

This takes place in the beginning of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica (focusing specifically on the anime representations for both) but for the purposes of the question you will need to take into account everything that happens throughout the anime without basing too much of you answer on their death or transformation. Meaning that we know who dies and becomes a Witch but just pretend they make it to the finishing line in order to prevent bias.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Rebellion, is to be disregarded.

The Question:

With their circumstances and personality combined; who, and with what reasoning, would be the first to surrender to despair and become a witch?

Remember, this is an AU Theory discussion. It is based on details provided/manipulated by myself for the purpose of discussion. Please respect others opinions as there are no correct answers.

My Answer:

I personally think that Mikasa would. Despite Homura appearing to have one of the strongest resistances, powered by her purpose, I don't think Mikasa could watch Eren die over and over again and her initial wish might have been more 'bring him back' rather than 'let me save him'. She becomes careless with her own life just hearing that there is a strong possibility that Eren has died and so her soul gem would probably be quite darkened from the first time he dies. Even though she is the strongest of the girls (it is debatable, yes, but Annie is not a Titan in this universe and without that armour I think Mikasa would come out on top in hand to hand; or sword to gun) I don’t think she is the strongest emotionally. Annie has a hard exterior but I believe this is due to her strength in maintaining her emotions or at least keeping them in check. I feel that she is unsure of what she is fighting for but she continues to do so without much question. Eren is too stubborn/vengeful to give up, Sasha seems a lot more malleable but I feel that she has more positivity to get through compared to the others. That goes for Christa as well. She still finds the time to help others and whilst she is not always composed I feel she is less at risk of a mental breakdown compared to the others.
